Yes, know it or not, Avatar is the most grossed movie of all time and is directed and created by James Cameron.Without adjusting for inflation, Cameron's Titanic and Avatar are the two highest-grossing films of all time at $2.16 billion and $2.78 billion.


Plot


A paraplegic ex-marine catches a new life on the distant planet of Pandora, only to discover himself fighting humankind beside the planet's indigenous Na'vi race in this ambitious digital 3D sci-fi epic from Academy Award-winning Titanic director James Cameron. When his twin brother is murdered, disabled ex-Marine Jake Sully is enlisted to aid a mining expedition on the distant jungle moon of Pandora as only his DNA will pledge with the alien hybrid body, known as an Avatar, that lets humans to breathe the toxic air. With instructions to penetrate the Na’vi, Jake discovers himself falling in love with a native girl, Neytiri, which creates a complex twisted scenario in the plot.
Soon battle lines are drawn and Jake needs to choose which side he will fight on when the time comes. The film was shot on the branded FUSION digital 3D cameras developed by Cameron in collaboration with Vince Pace, and deals a revolutionary mix of live-action dramatic performances and computer-generated effects.

Box Office


Avatar earned $3,537,000 from midnight screenings domestically (United States and Canada).The film earned $26,752,099 on its opening day, and $77,025,481 over its opening weekend. Avatar released internationally in more than 14,000 screens, with the initial 3-D release limited to 2,200 screens. Revenues in the film's second weekend decreased by only 1.8% in domestic markets, which was a surprise and it still kept the number one box office spot.

  • James Cameron originally planned to have the film completed for release in 1999 but he felt the technology wasn't developed enough to represent his image of the movie.
